The Criteria For Thinking
I refuse to believe that everyone’s opinion matters. The only reason my opinion matters is because I make it matter. However, I can’t expect everyone to agree with what my opinion is. That would be unjust. We could all be looking at a piece of grapefruit, but we would all gather different thoughts from seeing said grapefruit. The thing about having an opinion is that it is just that—an opinion. Just because you feel in your soul something to be true doesn’t mean it always is. It might be true to you, but it might not be true to me.
That’s where the beauty of it all comes in. It’s genuinely awesome that we all get to experience the world in different lights. How bland would it be if we all felt the exact same thing about everything? Maybe you think that that is like a utopia of sorts—a perfect world where everyone gets along and yadayadayada. But I think the joy of life is being able to have different opinions while still being able to coexist. You feel the way you want to feel about a certain thing, and vice versa. That doesn’t make you less of a person.
The thing that doesn’t make sense in my mind nowadays is how having a certain perspective of the world makes it so that people want to put you in a box or force you into feeling bad about yourself because you feel a certain way about XYZ. I personally think that if you enjoyed your own company so much and loved yourself so hard, you would not feel the need for everyone to be on “your side” about said thing, or even have people put everyone around them in categories.
Differences Are Beautiful
I also want people to understand that the beauty of this life is existing beyond our differences. We should be trying to understand why people feel the way they do about a certain topic. It opens doors for conversations that might benefit you because you get a perspective outside of your own. It’s good to always keep an open mind. It is good to keep growing and shifting perspectives about things. Maybe XYZ was how you felt last month, and now this month, you feel different about XYZ.
Things are always evolving. I think we should all be able to evolve in such a profound way that we are able to understand each other through our misunderstandings. I hope we all realize that we are here together, and we, as a collective, need to enjoy the fact we don’t think the same and get to have different perspectives about life. It makes the stories that much better.
Obviously, we can all agree that hurting others for no reason is bad, pedophilia is horrible, creeps are disgusting, and racism isn’t an opinion. We are all morally on the same page about those things. What I am talking about is if you think the sky is green and someone thinks it is blue—let them. And ask them why.
